What a medical interpreter does and does not do

FTH · · Papers & translation

A medical interpreter conveys what the doctor and patient say, accurately. The basic rule is to neither shorten nor add to explanations.

Interpreters do not interpret diagnoses or recommend treatments. If you have a question, you ask it, and the interpreter passes it on as it is.

Preparing the specialty and common terms before the appointment improves accuracy. FTH provides this kind of language support for consultations with Japanese institutions.
